About
Unitra 200 is an antifungal capsule from VHL containing itraconazole, a triazole agent used to treat a range of fungal infections of the skin, nails, and internal organs.
Uses
- Nail fungal infections (onychomycosis)
- Skin fungal infections such as ringworm
- Oral and vaginal candidiasis
- Systemic fungal infections like aspergillosis and histoplasmosis (under specialist care)
How it works
Itraconazole interferes with an enzyme fungi need to build their cell membrane. Without an intact membrane, fungal cells cannot grow or multiply, helping clear the infection.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food to improve absorption. Swallow the capsule whole with water.
Side effects
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Headache
- Diarrhoea or constipation
- Skin rash
- Liver enzyme changes (uncommon)
Precautions
Tell your doctor about heart failure, liver problems, or any medicines you take, as itraconazole interacts with many drugs. Not advised in pregnancy. Stop and seek help if you notice signs of liver trouble such as yellowing of the eyes.
