AKT 2 10 tab

AKT 2 from Lupin is a prescription anti-tuberculosis (TB) tablet that combines two key TB medicines, rifampicin and isoniazid, in one strip. It is mainly used in the continuation phase of TB treatment, after the initial intensive phase is over.

• Used in long-course TB therapy under DOTS or doctor's plan

Rifampicin blocks the enzyme that TB bacteria use to copy their genetic code, so they cannot grow. Isoniazid stops the bacteria from building a key part of their cell wall (mycolic acid), which makes them weak and easy for the body to clear. Used together, they work on the bacteria from two sides, lowering the chance of resistance.

Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor. TB tablets are usually taken on an empty stomach, at the same time every day. Do not skip doses or stop early, even if you feel better. Missing doses can cause TB to come back stronger and harder to treat.

• Nausea, vomiting or stomach upset
• Orange-red colour in urine, sweat or tears (a known harmless effect of rifampicin)
• Tingling in hands or feet
• Liver function changes
• Skin rash or itching

Regular liver tests are advised during treatment. Avoid alcohol. Tell your doctor about all other medicines you take, since rifampicin can lower the effect of birth-control pills, blood thinners and some HIV medicines. Take a vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) supplement if the doctor suggests it, to lower the risk of nerve problems. Inform the doctor at once if you notice yellow eyes, dark urine or vision changes.

Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and moisture. Keep the strip in its pack and out of reach of children.
