Lactihep Syrup from Sun Pharma contains lactulose, a synthetic sugar that the small intestine cannot absorb. It is used to relieve constipation and also plays a key role in lowering blood ammonia in people with liver-related brain symptoms.

Lactulose travels into the colon where bacteria break it down into mild acids. This pulls water into the bowel to soften stool and, in liver disease, traps ammonia in the gut so less of it reaches the bloodstream and brain.

Measure the syrup with the cap provided and take as prescribed by your doctor. Drink plenty of water through the day so the laxative effect is smooth rather than sudden.

Avoid in galactosaemia or suspected bowel obstruction. Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as lactulose contains small amounts of related sugars, and use carefully in pregnancy or with other laxatives.
