About
Alkasol Sugar Free is a urinary alkaliser from Cipla. It carries Disodium Hydrogen Citrate, which gently shifts urine from acidic to alkaline so passing urine feels less burning and stinging.
Uses
- Burning sensation while passing urine
- Mild urinary tract infections (along with antibiotics)
- Kidney stones made of uric acid
- Gout-related urine acidity
How it works
The citrate salt is absorbed and converted to bicarbonate in the body. This bicarbonate is then passed out through urine, raising its pH. Less acidic urine soothes the inner lining of the bladder and helps dissolve uric acid stones.
How to take
As prescribed by your doctor. Usually mixed with half a glass of water and taken after meals. Drink plenty of water through the day.
Side effects
- Mild stomach upset or loose motions
- Nausea in some people
- Swelling in feet if taken in excess
Precautions
Not suitable if you have kidney failure, very high potassium, or are on a strict salt-restricted diet. Inform your doctor if you take BP medicines or water tablets.
