About
Alciflox TZ combines two antibacterials — Ciprofloxacin 500 mg (a fluoroquinolone) and Tinidazole 600 mg (an anti-protozoal/anti-anaerobic). It is commonly prescribed for mixed gut infections where both bacteria and parasites may be involved.
Uses
- Mixed diarrhoea/dysentery
- Amoebic and bacterial gut infections together
- Some pelvic and dental infections
How it works
Ciprofloxacin blocks the bacteria's DNA-copying enzyme so they cannot multiply. Tinidazole enters anaerobic bugs and amoebae and damages their DNA. Together they cover a wider range of germs causing the infection.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with water after food. Avoid milk, curd or calcium-rich drinks right around the dose — they reduce absorption.
Side effects
- Nausea, metallic taste
- Loose motions or stomach pain
- Headache, dizziness
- Dark-coloured urine (Tinidazole)
- Tendon pain (rare, stop and call doctor)
Precautions
Strictly avoid alcohol during and 3 days after the course — it can cause severe vomiting. Inform your doctor about epilepsy, kidney problems, pregnancy or tendon issues. Drink plenty of fluids.

Store below 25°C, in a dry place away from sunlight and children.
