About

Azorex 250 from UHL contains azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It is used to treat a range of bacterial infections with a convenient short course.

Uses

  • Throat, sinus and ear infections
  • Chest and lower respiratory infections
  • Selected skin and sexually transmitted infections

How it works

Azithromycin binds to the bacterial ribosome and blocks protein production, stopping bacteria from multiplying so the immune system can clear the infection.

How to take

Take as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food. Complete the full course even if you feel better, and space doses evenly through the day.

Side effects

  • Nausea, diarrhoea or stomach pain
  • Headache or mild dizziness
  • Rarely, rash or changes in taste

Precautions

Tell your doctor about heart rhythm problems, liver disease, myasthenia gravis or allergies to macrolide antibiotics. Avoid antacids close to the dose. Discuss pregnancy or breastfeeding.
