About
Tigez Injection from Lupin contains Tigecycline, a glycylcycline antibiotic given in hospital. It is used for serious infections, usually when other antibiotics have not worked or cannot be used.
Uses
- Complicated skin and soft-tissue infections
- Complicated intra-abdominal infections
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Infections caused by resistant bacteria
How it works
Tigecycline is related to the tetracycline group. It binds to the bacterial ribosome and stops the bacteria from making the proteins they need. Without these proteins, the bacteria cannot grow or multiply.
How to take
This injection is given by a doctor or nurse in a hospital, as a slow drip into the vein. The dose, speed, and number of days will be decided by your treating doctor.
Side effects
- Nausea and vomiting
- Loose motions
- Pain or swelling at the drip site
- Headache
- Changes in liver test reports
Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies, liver disease, or pregnancy. Not generally given to children below 8 years. Inform the team if you get severe stomach pain, very loose stools, or breathing trouble during the drip.
Storage
Stored in the hospital pharmacy below 25 degrees C, away from light. Once prepared, the diluted injection must be used quickly as advised on the label.
