Product information
About
Cefrax CV from Cipla pairs cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, with clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that helps overcome bacteria that try to resist the antibiotic.
Uses
- Resistant respiratory tract infections
- Urinary tract infections
- Ear, sinus and throat infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
How it works
Cefixime damages the bacterial cell wall. Some bacteria release beta-lactamase enzymes to break down such antibiotics. Clavulanic acid blocks those enzymes so cefixime can finish its job.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food for a gentler effect on the stomach. Complete the full course even if you feel better.
Side effects
- Nausea or stomach upset
- Loose stools or diarrhoea
- Mild rash
- Headache
Precautions
Tell your doctor about any allergy to penicillin or cephalosporins, liver issues or kidney problems. Report severe diarrhoea promptly.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight, and keep out of reach of children.
