About

Unikona 200 is an antifungal tablet from UHL containing fluconazole, a triazole agent used to treat a range of fungal and yeast infections.

Uses

  • Vaginal yeast infections
  • Oral and throat thrush (candidiasis)
  • Skin and nail fungal infections
  • Cryptococcal meningitis (under specialist care)
  • Prevention of fungal infection in people with weakened immunity

How it works

Fluconazole interferes with an enzyme fungi need to build their cell membrane. Without an intact membrane, the fungal cells cannot survive or multiply, clearing the infection.

How to take

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.

Side effects

  • Nausea or stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Skin rash
  • Liver enzyme changes (uncommon)

Precautions

Tell your doctor about liver or kidney problems, heart rhythm issues, and all current medicines, as fluconazole can interact with many drugs. Discuss pregnancy and breastfeeding before use.
