Uses
- Treatment of leprosy (Hansen's disease) as part of multi-drug therapy
- Used for dermatitis herpetiformis and certain inflammatory skin conditions
How it works
Dapsone interferes with folic acid production in bacteria, slowing or stopping their growth. It also calms inflammation in certain skin disorders.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Complete the full course even if you feel better.
Side effects
- Nausea or loss of appetite
- Headache or dizziness
- Skin rash
- Anaemia or changes in blood counts
Precautions
Tell your doctor about G6PD deficiency, anaemia, or liver problems before starting. Regular blood tests may be needed. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a baby.
