About
Taxim Injection from Alkem contains cefotaxime sodium, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic given in hospital or clinic settings to treat serious bacterial infections. This is a single-vial paediatric-strength preparation.
Uses
- Severe bacterial infections of the chest, urinary tract, or skin
- Bone and joint infections
- Meningitis and bloodstream infections
How it works
Cefotaxime breaks down the bacterial cell wall, causing the bacteria to burst and die. It is active against a broad range of gram-negative and many gram-positive organisms.
How to take
Given as an injection by a trained healthcare professional, as prescribed by your doctor. Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early.
Side effects
- Pain or redness at the injection site
- Nausea, diarrhoea, or rash
- Rare allergic reactions
- Changes in blood counts on long use
Precautions
Tell your doctor about any allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins, kidney problems, or pregnancy. Watch for signs of severe allergy such as breathlessness or facial swelling.
Storage
Store the vial below 25°C, away from light. After reconstitution, use as directed by the hospital team. Keep out of reach of children.
