About
Gramogyl NF Syrup is a combination antibacterial syrup originally introduced by Ranbaxy. Each dose contains Metronidazole and Norfloxacin, which together cover a wide range of stomach and intestinal infections.
Uses
- Acute infectious diarrhoea
- Loose motions with blood or mucus
- Amoebic and bacterial dysentery
- Some intestinal parasitic infections
- Other gut infections as advised by the doctor
How it works
Norfloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic that stops the bacteria from copying their DNA, so they cannot multiply. Metronidazole works against amoeba and certain anaerobic bacteria by damaging their internal structures. Together they cover most common causes of infective diarrhoea.
How to take
Give as prescribed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well before each dose and use the measuring cup or spoon provided. Drink plenty of fluids and complete the full course even if motions stop.
Side effects
- Metallic taste in the mouth
- Nausea or mild stomach pain
- Loose stools
- Headache or dizziness
Precautions
Inform the doctor about liver, kidney or nerve problems, epilepsy or pregnancy. Avoid alcohol during the course and for at least a day after, as it can cause severe nausea with Metronidazole. Not generally preferred for very young children unless specifically advised.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep the bottle tightly closed, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
