Benadryl Cough Formula from Johnson & Johnson is a well-known cough syrup that combines diphenhydramine, ammonium chloride and sodium citrate. It is suited for productive (wet) cough with chest congestion and an irritated throat.

Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that calms allergy-driven cough and provides a soothing, mildly sedating effect. Ammonium chloride is an expectorant that loosens thick mucus so it is easier to bring up. Sodium citrate soothes the throat and helps thin secretions, making the cough more productive.

Take as prescribed by your doctor. Shake the bottle well and measure with the cap or measuring spoon supplied.
