About
Akurit 3 from Lupin is a fixed-dose anti-TB tablet bringing together three first-line medicines — Ethambutol, Isoniazid and Rifampicin — in one strip. It is prescribed during the continuation phase of tuberculosis treatment so patients swallow fewer pills each day.
Uses
- Treatment of pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis
- Continuation phase of DOTS regimen
- Helps prevent drug resistance with combined therapy
How it works
Rifampicin and Isoniazid kill the TB bacteria by stopping their RNA and cell-wall building, while Ethambutol blocks the same bug from forming a protective coat. Together they hit TB from three angles so it cannot easily survive.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually on an empty stomach with a glass of water. Do not skip doses — completing the full TB course is essential.
Side effects
- Nausea, loss of appetite
- Orange-red urine, sweat or tears (harmless, due to Rifampicin)
- Tingling in hands or feet
- Liver enzyme changes
- Mild vision blurring (report immediately)
Precautions
Tell your doctor about any liver problem, alcohol use, pregnancy or other medicines including birth-control pills (Rifampicin can reduce their effect). Get liver and eye check-ups as advised. Never stop the course mid-way.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from sunlight and out of children's reach.
