Telmisartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker that stops a hormone from narrowing your blood vessels, so they stay relaxed. Chlorthalidone is a long-acting water pill that gently flushes out extra salt and fluid, easing the pressure on artery walls.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, ideally in the morning with water. You can take it with or without food. Stay well hydrated unless told otherwise.

• Light-headedness on standing
• Frequent urination, especially early on
• Tiredness, headache or muscle cramps

Let your doctor know about kidney problems, gout, diabetes, low sodium or potassium levels, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid sudden standing up. Keep regular BP and lab check-ups.
