Product information
About
Rifaford 400 from Leeford contains Rifaximin, a gut-targeted antibiotic. Doctors often prescribe it for tummy infections and certain liver-related conditions because it stays mostly inside the intestine.
Uses
- Traveller's diarrhoea from bacteria
- Irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhoea
- Hepatic encephalopathy (reduce repeat episodes)
- Bacterial overgrowth in the gut
How it works
Rifaximin sticks to a bacterial enzyme called RNA polymerase and stops harmful bacteria in the intestine from multiplying. Since very little of it gets absorbed into the blood, it acts mainly inside the gut where the trouble is.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow with a glass of water, with or without food. Try to take doses at the same time each day and finish the full course.
Side effects
- Bloating or gas
- Stomach pain
- Nausea
- Headache
- Tiredness
Precautions
Tell the doctor if you have severe liver disease or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop the medicine and call the doctor if you get severe watery diarrhoea, fever, or a rash.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from sunlight. Keep in the original strip and out of reach of children.
