Tixylix Syrup from Abbott is a paediatric-style cough preparation that combines pholcodine, a centrally acting cough suppressant, with promethazine, a sedating antihistamine. It is intended for short-term relief of a dry, tickly night cough.

Pholcodine calms the cough reflex in the brain so the urge to cough is reduced. Promethazine adds a mild antihistamine and sedative effect that can help dry post-nasal drip and support restful sleep.

Take by mouth using the supplied measure, as prescribed by your doctor. Do not mix with other cough or cold remedies without checking first, and avoid driving or operating machinery after a dose.

Tell your doctor about asthma, breathing problems, liver disease or if you take sedatives, sleeping pills or alcohol. Not suitable for very young children unless specifically advised by a paediatrician.
