Creon from Abbott is a digestive enzyme capsule based on pancreatin, which supplies the enzymes the pancreas normally makes. It helps people whose pancreas does not release enough enzymes of its own.

Pancreatin contains a mix of lipase, protease and amylase. These enzymes help break down fats, proteins and starches in the gut so the body can absorb nutrients properly.

Swallow the capsules whole with meals and snacks, as prescribed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew the granules inside. If swallowing is hard, the capsule may be opened and the granules mixed with a small spoon of soft, acidic food on your doctor's advice.

Tell your doctor about pork allergy as pancreatin is from pig source. Drink enough fluids and report any unusual gut pain. Use with care in cystic fibrosis at high doses.
