Gluconorm SR 500 from Lupin is a sustained-release tablet of metformin, a long-used biguanide medicine for type 2 diabetes. The SR form releases the medicine slowly through the day so it is generally easier on the stomach than regular metformin.

Metformin works mainly by lowering the amount of glucose your liver puts out and by helping muscle and fat cells use insulin more effectively. The slow-release coating means the medicine is delivered gradually rather than in one quick burst.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with the evening meal. Swallow whole with water and do not crush, split or chew the tablet.
