Product information
About
Huminsulin 30/70 from Eli Lilly is a premix human insulin containing 30% short-acting regular insulin and 70% intermediate-acting isophane (NPH) insulin. It provides both a quick mealtime cover and a longer background action from a single injection — useful for people with diabetes who prefer fewer daily shots.
Uses
- Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Long-term blood sugar control
- Patients needing mixed insulin therapy
How it works
The regular insulin part starts working within 30 minutes to handle the sugar from your meal, while the NPH portion releases slowly over several hours to keep background levels steady. Together they mimic how a healthy pancreas would respond around mealtimes.
How to take
Inject under the skin as prescribed by your doctor, usually 30 minutes before a meal. Rotate injection sites — abdomen, thigh or upper arm — to prevent lumps. Gently roll the vial before drawing the dose; never shake.
Side effects
- Low blood sugar (sweating, shaking, dizziness)
- Weight gain
- Redness or lumps at injection site
- Itching or rash (uncommon)
- Blurred vision early in therapy
Precautions
Always carry a sugar source for sudden hypoglycaemia. Tell your doctor about kidney, liver or thyroid issues, pregnancy, or other medicines. Monitor blood sugar regularly and never skip meals after injecting.
Storage
Store unopened vial in a fridge (2–8°C). Once in use, can stay at room temperature below 25°C for up to 28 days. Do not freeze; protect from direct sunlight.
