Mixtard 30 HM Penfill from Novo Nordisk is a pre-mixed human insulin pen cartridge with 30% short-acting and 70% intermediate-acting insulin. Doctors prescribe it for diabetes when both a quick post-meal effect and longer cover are needed in one shot.

• Type 1 diabetes
• Type 2 diabetes when tablets are not enough
• Diabetes in pregnancy as advised

The soluble human insulin acts within 30 minutes to handle the meal you eat, while the isophane (NPH) part keeps working for many hours to cover the gaps between meals and overnight.

Use as prescribed by your doctor with a compatible insulin pen device. Mix gently as instructed, inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm, and rotate sites. Eat your meal within the time your doctor advised.

• Low blood sugar (sweating, shakiness, hunger, confusion)
• Weight gain
• Redness or lumps at the injection site
• Allergic reaction (rare)

Learn to recognise and treat low sugar. Do not skip meals after an injection. Tell the doctor about kidney, liver or thyroid problems and any other diabetes medicines you use. Adjust as advised during illness, travel or exercise.

Store unused pens in a fridge at 2-8°C, do not freeze. The pen in use can be kept below 30°C, away from direct sunlight, for the time written on the pack. Keep out of reach of children.
