About
Huminsulin 30/70 cartridge by Eli Lilly holds a premix of 30% regular insulin and 70% isophane (NPH) insulin, designed for use with a reusable insulin pen. The cartridge format makes daily dosing convenient and discreet for people managing diabetes.
Uses
- Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Daily insulin therapy in adults and children
- Patients using pen-based delivery devices
How it works
The short-acting regular insulin starts within half an hour to handle your meal, while the NPH portion stretches insulin action across several hours for background control. The mix replaces what your pancreas can no longer produce on its own.
How to take
Load the cartridge into a compatible insulin pen and inject under the skin as prescribed by your doctor, usually before a meal. Gently roll the pen to mix before each dose. Always use a fresh needle and rotate injection sites.
Side effects
- Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar)
- Weight gain
- Skin reactions at injection site
- Mild swelling, itching
- Temporary blurred vision when starting
Precautions
Check the cartridge looks uniformly cloudy before injecting — discard if clumps appear. Inform your doctor of kidney, liver, thyroid problems or pregnancy. Carry quick sugar at all times and do not share pens with others.
Storage
Keep unused cartridges refrigerated at 2–8°C. In-use cartridges may stay at room temperature below 25°C for up to 28 days. Avoid freezing and direct sunlight.
