Gluconorm SR 1g from Lupin is a sustained-release tablet of metformin, a well-known biguanide medicine for type 2 diabetes. The SR (sustained release) form lets the medicine work gradually through the day, which can be easier on the stomach than regular metformin.

Metformin reduces the amount of glucose your liver makes and releases into the blood, and helps muscle and fat cells use insulin better. The SR formulation releases the medicine slowly so its action is steady rather than coming as a sharp peak.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with the evening meal. Swallow the tablet whole with water and do not crush or chew it, as that would break the slow-release coating.

• Nausea, bloating or loose stools, especially at the start
• Metallic taste in the mouth
• Loss of appetite
• Rarely, very low vitamin B12 with long use

Tell your doctor about kidney, liver or heart issues, and any heavy alcohol use. Stop and seek help right away if you feel deep tiredness, fast breathing or stomach pain (signs of a rare condition called lactic acidosis).

Store below 25 degrees C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep in the strip and out of children's reach.
