Debistal-1000 SR tablets from Leeford contain Metformin in a sustained release form. Metformin is a first-line oral medicine for type 2 diabetes and the SR form releases the drug slowly through the day.

• Sometimes used in polycystic ovary syndrome (as advised)

Metformin lowers the amount of sugar made by the liver, slows sugar absorption from the gut and helps body cells use insulin more effectively. The sustained release form keeps the level steady and is gentler on the stomach.

Take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, usually with or just after a meal. Do not crush or chew, as that breaks the slow-release coating.
