About
Nicostar 10mg from Lupin contains nicorandil, a medicine that opens potassium channels and acts like a nitrate. It is used to prevent and treat chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart, called angina.
Uses

How it works
Nicorandil relaxes and widens both the arteries that supply the heart and the veins that bring blood back, which lowers the workload on the heart and improves its blood supply. The combined action eases chest pain over time.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, with water, and try to keep doses evenly spaced. Do not stop suddenly, as angina can worsen.
Side effects
- Headache, especially early on
- Flushing
- Dizziness
- Mouth, gut, or skin ulcers in rare cases
Precautions
Tell your doctor about low blood pressure, heart failure, or if you take medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, which can dangerously lower pressure with nicorandil. Report any persistent ulcer to your doctor.
