About
Lupisulin N from Lupin is an NPH (isophane) human insulin vial, 40 IU strength, used as a basal insulin. NPH gives a slower, longer action than regular insulin.
Uses
- Type 1 diabetes
- Type 2 diabetes needing basal insulin
- Daytime or bedtime background sugar control
- Combined with short-acting insulin when needed
How it works
NPH insulin is regular human insulin attached to protamine, which slows absorption from the injection site. This gives an intermediate, long-running effect for steady background sugar control.
How to take
Use as prescribed by your doctor. Roll the vial gently to mix until cloudy. Draw the dose using a U-40 insulin syringe and inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh or upper arm.
Side effects
- Low blood sugar (especially at night)
- Weight gain
- Injection-site reaction
- Skin thickening with repeated use
Precautions
Always use a U-40 syringe with this vial. Rotate injection sites. Tell your doctor about kidney, liver, thyroid disease and any new medicines. Always have a sugar source nearby.
Storage
Keep unopened vials in the fridge between 2 to 8 degrees C, do not freeze. In-use vials can be kept at room temperature below 30 degrees C per the pack.
