Humalog Mix 50 Vial

Humalog Mix 50 from Eli Lilly is a prescription premixed insulin containing 50 percent rapid-acting insulin lispro and 50 percent intermediate-acting insulin lispro protamine. It is used in adults and children with diabetes who need help controlling blood sugar around meals.

The rapid part starts acting within minutes to cover the rise in sugar after a meal. The protamine part is absorbed slowly and gives a background insulin effect for several hours, so it covers both meal-time and basal needs in one shot.

Use as prescribed by your doctor. Roll the vial gently between palms before drawing the dose, do not shake. Inject under the skin of the abdomen, thigh, arm or buttock, usually just before meals. Change the injection site each time.

• Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia)

Do not use if the liquid looks clear, lumpy or stained. Always check the strength on the label. Carry sugar or sweets to manage low blood sugar. Tell your doctor about kidney, liver or thyroid problems and any other medicines.

Store unopened vials in the fridge at 2 to 8°C. Do not freeze. The vial in use can be kept at room temperature below 30°C, away from heat and sunlight, for the period stated by the manufacturer.
