About
Torsivac from Prevego contains torsemide, a loop diuretic. The lower strength is often used to start treatment or for milder fluid retention and blood pressure control.
Uses
- Mild swelling from heart failure
- Fluid retention in kidney or liver disease

How it works
Torsemide works in the loop of Henle in the kidney and blocks salt from being reabsorbed back into the blood. Water moves out with the salt, reducing swelling and easing the load on the heart.
How to take
Swallow the tablet with water, preferably in the morning to limit nighttime trips to the toilet. Take it as prescribed by your doctor and do not stop on your own.
Side effects
- Frequent urination
- Thirst or mild dehydration
- Dizziness on standing
- Muscle cramps from low potassium
Precautions
Share your history of gout, diabetes, kidney or liver problems with your doctor. Other blood pressure medicines, NSAIDs and potassium-affecting drugs may interact. Periodic blood tests may be advised. Tell the doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
