About
Valprid CR 200 is a controlled-release tablet from Micro Labs combining Sodium Valproate and Valproic Acid. It belongs to the antiepileptic (anticonvulsant) class and is widely used in neurology practice for seizure control and mood stabilization.
Uses
- Helps manage different types of epileptic seizures
- Used for bipolar disorder mood episodes
- Sometimes prescribed for migraine prevention
How it works
Valproate calms overactive electrical signals in the brain by raising levels of a soothing chemical messenger called GABA and steadying nerve cell activity. The controlled-release form releases the medicine slowly, giving steadier levels through the day.
How to take
Swallow the tablet whole with water as prescribed by your doctor. Do not crush or chew it. Try to take it at the same time each day, with or just after food to reduce stomach upset.
Side effects
- Nausea, indigestion or mild stomach pain
- Drowsiness, dizziness or tremor
- Weight gain or hair thinning over time
- Rarely, liver or pancreas issues — report yellowing skin or severe abdominal pain promptly
Precautions
Not suitable during pregnancy as it can harm the baby — discuss contraception if you can become pregnant. Inform your doctor about liver problems, family history of metabolic disorders, or other medicines you take. Avoid alcohol and do not stop suddenly.
Storage
Keep below 25 degrees C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight and out of children's reach.
