Trajenta Duo from Boehringer Ingelheim combines linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, with metformin, a biguanide. The fixed-dose pair is used in adults with type 2 diabetes whose sugar is not well controlled on metformin alone.

Linagliptin blocks the DPP-4 enzyme, allowing the body's own incretin hormones to last longer. These hormones nudge the pancreas to release insulin after meals and reduce the liver's sugar release. Metformin lowers the amount of glucose the liver makes and improves the way muscles use insulin, so blood sugar stays steadier through the day.

Swallow the tablet whole with water, with meals to ease stomach upset. Take it as prescribed by your doctor and do not skip meals while on treatment.

Not suitable in severe kidney or liver disease, dehydration, or conditions with low oxygen. Pause around contrast scans or major surgery as advised by your doctor. Watch for symptoms of pancreatitis like severe upper-abdomen pain. Carry a sugar source for hypoglycaemia and tell your doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
