About
Zytanix 5 from Zydus is a higher-strength tablet of Metolazone, a thiazide-like diuretic. It is generally used when a stronger water-removing effect is needed, often along with other heart or kidney medicines.
Uses
- Stubborn swelling in heart failure
- Fluid build-up from kidney disease
- High blood pressure not controlled by other tablets
- Add-on with loop diuretics in severe oedema
How it works
Metolazone reduces the re-absorption of sodium and water at a specific part of the kidney tubule. The extra fluid leaves the body as urine, which relieves swelling and reduces blood pressure.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, preferably in the morning. Swallow whole with water. Do not skip blood tests advised by your doctor while on this medicine.
Side effects

- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Low potassium, sodium or magnesium
- Dry mouth
Precautions
Use carefully if you have gout, diabetes, low salt levels or kidney trouble. Inform the doctor about all other medicines. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should use only if clearly advised.
