Gluconorm SR 850

Gluconorm SR 850 from Lupin is a tablet of metformin, a biguanide medicine that is one of the most widely used first-line treatments for type 2 diabetes. The 850 mg strength is a step up from the standard 500 mg dose.

Metformin lowers the amount of glucose your liver releases into the bloodstream and helps your body use its own insulin more efficiently. It does not cause the pancreas to release extra insulin, so the risk of very low sugar on its own is small.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with or just after a meal to be easier on the stomach. Swallow whole with water.

• Nausea, bloating or loose stools, especially at the start
• Metallic taste in the mouth
• Reduced appetite
• Very rarely, low vitamin B12 with long use

Tell your doctor about kidney, liver or heart issues and limit alcohol. Seek help right away if you have deep tiredness, fast breathing or stomach pain (signs of a rare condition called lactic acidosis). Get kidney function checked as advised.

Store below 25 degrees C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep in the strip and out of children's reach.
