Product information
About
Ismo Retard from Abbott is a long-acting heart medicine containing Isosorbide Mononitrate. Doctors prescribe it to prevent chest pain (angina) in people with coronary heart disease.
Uses
- Prevention of angina (chest pain)
- Long-term care of coronary artery disease
- Reducing frequency of angina episodes
How it works
Isosorbide Mononitrate is a nitrate that releases nitric oxide in the body. This relaxes and widens blood vessels, so the heart needs less effort to pump and gets a better blood supply, easing chest pain.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew the retard tablet. A nitrate-free interval each day, as advised, helps keep the medicine effective.
Side effects
- Headache (often eases with continued use)
- Flushing or warm face
- Dizziness or light-headedness
- Low blood pressure on standing
Precautions
Do not take with PDE5 inhibitors (used for erectile issues) as it can cause severe drops in blood pressure. Stand up slowly from a sitting or lying position. Do not stop suddenly without advice.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from sunlight. Keep tablets in the original strip till use. Keep out of reach of children.
