Pirfenex 400

Pirfenex is a tablet containing pirfenidone, a medicine used in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). It is prescribed to help slow down the steady scarring of the lung tissue seen in this serious lung condition.

• Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis in adults
• Helps slow the decline in lung function
• Used as long-term maintenance therapy

Pirfenidone has both anti-fibrotic and anti-inflammatory actions. It reduces the activity of certain growth factors and cytokines that drive scarring, which helps slow the build-up of fibrous tissue in the lungs.

Swallow the tablet with water and food as prescribed by your doctor. Taking it with meals helps reduce stomach upset.

• Liver enzyme rise on blood tests

Avoid direct sun exposure and use broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Tell your doctor about any liver, kidney or heart problems and about smoking. Regular liver function tests are needed. Avoid in pregnancy and breastfeeding unless clearly advised.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the strip closed and out of reach of children.
