Valprol CR 500 from Alembic Pharmaceuticals is a controlled-release tablet of Sodium Valproate with Valproic Acid. It is a well-established antiepileptic and mood-stabilizing medicine.

• Control of various seizure disorders
• Maintenance therapy in bipolar disorder
• Prevention of recurrent migraine attacks

Valproate increases the levels of GABA, a calming brain chemical, and reduces erratic electrical activity in nerve cells. The CR design releases the drug gradually for stable blood levels.

Swallow whole with a glass of water as prescribed by your doctor. Take it at the same time each day, preferably with food to ease stomach discomfort. Do not crush or chew.

• Drowsiness, tremor or unsteady walk
• Hair loss or weight gain
• Rarely, liver inflammation, low platelets or pancreatitis — report warning signs quickly

Not recommended in pregnancy because of risk to the baby; reliable contraception is essential for women of childbearing age. Tell your doctor about liver, kidney or bleeding problems. Limit alcohol. Stopping suddenly may trigger seizures.
