Prothiaden 25

Prothiaden 25 from Abbott is a prescription antidepressant tablet containing Dosulepin (also called Dothiepin). It belongs to the older tricyclic antidepressant family and is often started at this lower strength.

• Depression with low mood and poor sleep
• Anxiety mixed with depression
• Some chronic pain conditions, as advised by the doctor

Dosulepin gently increases the levels of mood-related chemicals serotonin and noradrenaline in the brain. Over a few weeks, this helps lift mood, improve sleep and reduce anxious thoughts.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with water. It often takes 2 to 4 weeks for the full effect, so do not stop on your own even if you feel better.

• Dry mouth
• Drowsiness or feeling sleepy
• Constipation
• Blurred vision
• Mild weight gain

Avoid driving until you know how the tablet affects you. Do not mix with alcohol. Inform the doctor if you have heart disease, glaucoma, prostate enlargement, epilepsy, or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Never stop suddenly.

Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep in the original strip and out of reach of children.
