Prothiaden 50

Prothiaden 50 from Abbott is a prescription antidepressant tablet containing Dosulepin (Dothiepin) in a mid-range strength. It is a tricyclic antidepressant used when a step-up dose is needed.

• Moderate depression
• Depression with disturbed sleep
• Anxiety with low mood
• Some chronic pain syndromes, as advised

The medicine raises the brain's levels of serotonin and noradrenaline, which help control mood, sleep and emotional balance. The full benefit usually shows over a few weeks of regular use.

Take as prescribed by your doctor, usually with water. Many doctors advise the dose at night because it can cause sleepiness. Continue the full course; do not stop on your own.

Avoid alcohol and driving until effects are clear. Inform the doctor of any heart problems, glaucoma, urinary issues, seizures, thyroid disease, or pregnancy. Stopping suddenly can cause withdrawal-like symptoms.
