Unwanted 72

Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill from Mankind containing levonorgestrel, used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure.

• Emergency contraception within 72 hours of unprotected sex
• Back-up after a missed regular contraceptive or condom failure

Levonorgestrel works mainly by delaying or preventing the release of an egg from the ovary. It may also make it harder for sperm to reach an egg. It does not end an established pregnancy and works best the sooner it is taken.

Take as prescribed by your doctor or as directed on the pack, as soon as possible after unprotected sex and within 72 hours. If vomiting occurs within a couple of hours, contact your doctor.

• Tiredness or headache
• Breast tenderness
• Changes in the timing of your next period

This is for occasional emergency use, not regular contraception. Tell your doctor about liver disease, severe gut absorption problems, or any current medicines. Seek medical advice if your period is more than a week late or unusually different.
