About
Zycolchin is a Zydus tablet containing colchicine, an anti-inflammatory medicine that has been used for centuries to manage gout. It is also used for a few other inflammatory conditions.
Uses
- Acute gout attacks
- Prevention of gout flares while starting urate-lowering therapy
- Familial Mediterranean fever
- Selected inflammatory conditions as advised by a doctor
How it works
Colchicine quiets down the inflammatory cells that rush to a joint when urate crystals build up. It blocks the inner skeleton these cells use to move and release inflammatory signals, so swelling, redness, and pain settle down.
How to take
Take as prescribed by your doctor, with water and ideally with food to ease the stomach. Do not exceed the dose your doctor recommends, since colchicine has a narrow safety margin.
Side effects
- Loose stools, nausea, or stomach cramps
- Muscle weakness or unusual pain
- Tingling in hands or feet
- Lower blood counts with long use
Precautions
Tell your doctor about kidney, liver, or blood disorders, and list other medicines including clarithromycin, certain statins, and ciclosporin, which can interact. Stop and seek help if diarrhoea is severe or you develop muscle weakness.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
