Product information
About
Saaz-DS Tablet from Ipca is a higher-strength form of sulfasalazine, a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) that also acts on the bowel lining. The 'DS' (double strength) form lets people on long-term therapy take fewer tablets.
Uses
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Ulcerative colitis (mild to moderate)
- Some types of spondyloarthritis
How it works
In the gut, sulfasalazine splits into two parts. One soothes inflammation in the bowel wall, while the parent molecule dampens the overactive immune signals behind painful, swollen joints.
How to take
Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water, preferably after food, as prescribed by your doctor. Keep up a good fluid intake through the day.
Side effects
- Nausea, indigestion, or reduced appetite
- Headache or dizziness
- Yellow-orange tint to urine or skin
- Skin rash or sun sensitivity
Precautions
Tell your doctor about any allergy to sulfa drugs or aspirin, or any history of liver, kidney, or blood disorders. Regular blood and liver tests are usually needed. Use sunscreen and avoid long sun exposure during treatment.
Storage
Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and moisture. Keep in the original strip and out of reach of children.
