About
Imiquad Cream from Glenmark contains Imiquimod, an immune-response modifier used on the skin. Doctors prescribe it to treat certain skin conditions caused by viruses and some early skin growths.
Uses
- External genital and peri-anal warts in adults
- Actinic keratosis (rough sun-damaged patches) on the face or scalp
- Some superficial basal-cell skin cancers when advised by a skin specialist
How it works
Imiquimod activates the body's own immune cells in the skin to fight the virus or abnormal cells. It boosts natural defence chemicals such as interferon, which help clear the warts or rough patches over time.
How to apply
Use as prescribed by your doctor. Wash hands before and after. Apply a thin layer to the affected area at bedtime, leave for the time the doctor advises and wash off in the morning. Use only on the skin areas told by the doctor.
Side effects
- Redness, itching or burning at the site
- Flaking, scabbing or mild oozing
- Local swelling
- Flu-like feeling in some people
Precautions
Not for the eyes, lips, inside the nose or vagina. Avoid sun and tanning beds on treated skin. Not advised in pregnancy or breastfeeding unless the doctor decides. Stop and see the doctor if the skin reaction is severe.
Storage
Store below 25°C, away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children. Discard any leftover after the course.
