The test strip contains antibodies that look for hCG — the hormone made by the placenta soon after a fertilised egg implants. If hCG is present in your urine above the test's threshold, a coloured line appears showing a positive result.

Use first-morning urine for best accuracy. Collect a small sample in a clean container and place a few drops in the test well as shown on the leaflet. Read the result at the time mentioned — usually within 5 minutes.
