About
Potassium Permanganate from IDH is a dark-purple crystalline chemical with strong oxidising and mild antiseptic properties. It is widely used in dilute form for skin soaking and minor disinfection at home and in clinics.
Uses
- Skin soaks for fungal foot infections
- Cleaning weeping eczema or infected wounds
- Mild disinfection of skin surfaces
- Soak baths for oozing skin conditions
How it works
When dissolved in water, potassium permanganate releases active oxygen that destroys bacteria, fungi and other microbes on the skin surface, and also helps dry up wet, oozing patches.
How to take
Use only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The usual method is to dissolve a small quantity in a bucket of clean water to make a light pink solution, then soak the affected area for the suggested time. Do not apply the dry crystals directly to the skin.
Side effects
- Brown staining of skin and nails
- Mild burning or stinging
- Dryness with repeated use
- Skin irritation if solution is too strong
Precautions
For external use only. The undissolved crystals can burn skin and damage clothes, basins and floors. Keep away from eyes and mouth. Do not swallow. Always make a freshly diluted, light pink solution.
Storage
Store in a tightly closed container in a cool, dry place, away from heat, sparks and flammable materials. Keep well out of reach of children.
