Dinoterm Et from Leeford is a combined oral contraceptive pill that brings together dienogest, a progestin, with ethinyl estradiol, a form of oestrogen. The 21-tablet pack follows the familiar monthly cycle used with combined pills.

The pill combines two hormones. Ethinyl estradiol and dienogest work together to stop the ovary from releasing an egg, thicken cervical mucus so sperm cannot pass easily and thin the lining of the womb so implantation is unlikely. The combined effect gives reliable contraception when taken as directed.

Take as prescribed by your doctor. Usually one tablet daily for 21 days followed by a pill-free week, but follow the exact plan your doctor sets out.

• Nausea, headache or breast tenderness
• Spotting between periods, especially in the first few cycles
• Mood changes or mild weight change
• Rare but serious risk of blood clots

Not suitable if you smoke and are over 35, or if you have a history of blood clots, certain cancers, severe migraine with aura, uncontrolled high blood pressure or liver disease. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, since some can lower the pill's effect.
