About
Neosporin Powder from GSK is a topical antibiotic dusting powder containing Neomycin, Polymyxin B and Bacitracin Zinc. It is used to prevent and treat bacterial infections on the skin surface.
Uses
- Minor cuts, scrapes and burns
- Surgical wounds (as advised)
- Skin folds prone to infection
- Nappy or intertrigo-related infections
- Boils and infected sores
How it works
The three antibiotics act together to cover a wide spectrum of skin bacteria. Neomycin and Bacitracin work mainly on gram-positive germs, while Polymyxin B targets gram-negative ones, stopping bacteria from growing on the wound.
How to take
Use as prescribed by your doctor. Clean and dry the affected skin, then dust a thin, even layer of powder. Avoid breathing in the powder and keep it away from the eyes and mouth.
Side effects
- Local skin irritation
- Itching or redness
- Dryness
- Rarely, allergic rash
Precautions
Not for use on deep wounds, animal bites or severe burns without medical advice. Avoid prolonged use, especially on large areas, as antibiotics may be absorbed. Tell the doctor about any past antibiotic allergy.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a dry place, away from moisture and sunlight. Keep the container tightly closed and out of reach of children.
