About
Neosporin H Ointment from GSK is a topical combination of three antibiotics (Neomycin, Polymyxin B, Bacitracin) and the steroid Hydrocortisone. It is used for infected and inflamed skin conditions.
Uses
- Infected eczema or dermatitis
- Minor cuts, burns and grazes with redness
- Insect bite infections
- Mild bacterial skin infections with itching
How it works
The three antibiotics together cover a wide range of skin bacteria - Neomycin and Bacitracin tackle gram-positive bacteria, while Polymyxin B handles gram-negative ones. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that quickly settles redness, itching and swelling.
How to take
Use on the skin as prescribed by your doctor. Wash and dry the affected area, then apply a thin layer with a clean finger. Do not cover with a tight bandage unless the doctor advises.
Side effects
- Local burning or stinging
- Skin dryness or peeling
- Mild rash or irritation
- Rarely, allergic skin reaction
Precautions
Avoid use on large raw areas or for long periods, as steroids can thin the skin and antibiotics may be absorbed. Not for use in the eyes. Tell the doctor about any antibiotic allergy.
Storage
Store below 25°C, away from heat and direct sunlight. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of reach of children.
