About this test
The Anti Streptolysin-O (ASO) test measures the presence of antibodies against streptolysin O, a toxin produced by group A Streptococcus bacteria. Elevated levels of ASO can indicate a recent streptococcal infection and are commonly used to help diagnose conditions, such as strep throat or skin infection, rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, or glomerulonephritis – a type of kidney inflammation.
