About this test
The VDRL (Venereal Disease Research Laboratory) or RPR (Rapid Plasma Reagin) test is used to screen for syphilis, a sexually transmitted infection caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. It detects antibodies that the body produces in response to the infection, rather than the bacteria itself. This test is commonly used for early detection and monitoring of treatment response.
